Nickels
A well designed coin that collectors should be jumping on. Nickels are still being minted since 1866 and have gone through some design changes. The shield nickel has a great design and was minted from 1866-1883. The liberty nickel often called the "V" nickel received its name because of the V on the reverse. 1883 was the only year to have the "V" engraved on the reverse. 1884-1912 the word cents were engraved below the V. Buffalo or Indian head nickels were the next evolution of nickel design. These nickels were minted from 1913-1938. The buffalo nickel is highly collectable. The dates on the nickel had real high points and would wear off easily. Reading the dates give this nickel an edge on value. From 1938-present, the Jefferson nickel is the current five cent piece in circulation. Recent changes in the design of Jefferson's appearance are now being minted. In 1942-1945 nickels were 35% silver. The reason for this was due to a needed supply of nickel for ammo during the war. These are highly collectable for the silver content.
