In 2000 the Sacagawea Dollar was introduced as the new circulating dollar coin of the United States.   Sacagawea dollars were produced in smaller quantities from 2002 until 2008 and sold to collectors or included in annual US Mint coin sets.  From 2009 the obverse design was slightly altered and the reverse would change annually with a different design celebrating the accomplishments of Native Americans. Officially it was renamed the Native American Dollar, the coins were once again struck in quantities intended for circulation.
